The first dental school in the United States
was the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery,
founded in 1840 by Dr. Horace H. Hayden
and Dr. Chapin A. Harris. It also created the
Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree and
later became part of the University of Maryland,
and this marks the start of Dentistry formally
separating itself from the practice of Medicine.
The current campus was built in 2006 after
have four other locations.There were five
students who started in the inaugural class,
yet only two ended up graduating in 1841.
One of them, Dr. Arthur, went on to become
a Dean of Philadelphia Dental College.
