How Much Do Forensic Odontologists Make?

(The Love ToothBrush Patent  #D363,820  November 7, 1995.)

To become a forensic (crime scene investigations)

odontologist, one must first earn

a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental

Medicine (DMD) degree, followed by specialized

training in forensic odontology and hands-on experience.

Obtaining board certification from the American Board

of Forensic Odontology requires completing specific

casework and passing a qualifying exam.

Forensic odontology is unique in that almost no one does

forensic odontology as a full-time, standalone job. Instead,

nearly all forensic dentists are practicing general dentists

or dental specialists who provide part-time consulting

services to coroner offices, medical examiners,

and law enforcement agencies.

The average standalone pay rests at $61,156 per year

(or about $29.40 per hour).

Minor consulting can yield from $41,900 – $54,000,

and being an Expert Witnesses can possibly

bring in $121,000 – $203,000.

Big city metropolitan medical examiner

offices that employ full-time staff forensic dentists

typically offer stable government salaries ranging

from $120,000 to $160,000, accompanied by public benefits.

Why Did President Woodrow Wilson Never Smile?

The Love ToothBrush Patent  #D363,820  November 7, 1995.

Woodrow Wilson suffered from severely rotten

and neglected teeth. Medical historians link his

exceptionally poor oral health to the

the lack of oral hygiene and severe

strokes he suffered later in life. He almost

always kept his mouth closed in official

portraits to hide his teeth.

Which Dental Specialty Can Make Dentists The Most Money?

The Love ToothBrush Patent  #D363,820  November 7, 1995.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is

universally recognized as the dental specialty

that makes the most money. On average,

oral and maxillofacial surgeons pull in a

median salary ranging from $311,000 to

over $600,000 per year. A DDS/DMD degree

is required first, then a a rigorous 4-to-6-year

residency is done that rewards them with a OMFS Degree.

Undergrad, dental school and OMFS

residency can cost up to

$800,000 in today's dollars, but residents get

paid about $75,00 a year by the hospital

they work at for some their years.
