Lactobacillus of the Lactobacillaceae
family is a genus of aerotolerant or
microaerophilic, gram-positive, rod-shaped
bacteria that do not form endospores.
At least 261 species of this diverse genus
have been identified. They have been used
in yogurt as a probiotic, and are found
naturally in the digestive system and in
other human organ systems.
